THE FUTURE OF PINBALL
- June 30 - July 6

USA, 2006
Greg Maletic
 60 minutes

This was the situation facing the pinball designers at Williams Electronic Games in 1998: come up with something new, or see the world's largest pinball manufacturer be shut down forever. And Williams' designers did come up with something amazing: a brand new kind of pinball machine that fused new video technology with classic pinball gameplay, preserving what was great about pinball, yet opening up a whole new world of game possibilities.
The Future of Pinball is a documentary that tells the story of the extraordinary Pinball 2000(tm) machines built by Williams in an effort to save not just the company, but the product that had defined coin-operated entertainment for eighty years.

There will be a Director Q&A on Fri and Sat night.

12 classic pinball machines will be at the theater during the week, and will be
available to play for 1 hour before the 7pm show, and 1 hour after the 8:30 show.

Here are the pinball games, all from 1978 to 1982:

Williams BLACK KNIGHT
Williams GORGAR
Williams FIREPOWER
Williams FLASH
William LASER BALL
Bally SPACE INVADERS
Bally XENON
Bally CENTAUR
Bally EIGHT BALL DELUXE
Bally ROLLING STONES

RISE ABOVE: THE TRIBE 8 DOCUMENTARY
- August 11-15

USA, 2003
 80 minutes

Winner of Best Documentary at the 2003 San Francisco Lesbian and Gay Film Festival

This entertaining film on the punk band, Tribe 8 - chronicles hilarious live performances, candid moments, and the controversy at The Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. It also captures the truly funny and warm people behind the music and the politics!
The images presented on stage of blow jobs, sadomasochistic acts and mock castrations are not shocking the audience for shock's sake, but understood on a deeper level through the band members' intense personal disclosures. These interviews inform an understanding and respect for why they do what they do. Especially riveting are the interviews with singer Lynn Breedlove and her mother. This documentary concludes that it is the humor and physicality that lies within the controversial performance that gives these five individuals the peace to experience the rapture of being alive

Edited from hours and hours of footage, THE BEALES captures ‘Big’ Edie and ‘Little’ Edie at their resplendent, dazzling and exasperating best—philosophizing on God, love and war amidst the disorder of their ramshackle East Hampton mansion, with a montage tribute to Little Edie’s inimitable style and showstopping outfits. This intimate and transfixing portrait of the Beales, iconic figures since the release of GREY GARDENS some thirty years ago, brings us ever closer to the baroque mystery of their lives together.

CELEBRATE THE 36th ANNIVERSARY OF OREGON'S ONLY STATE SPONSORED ROCK FESTIVAL!

DIRECTOR IN ATTENDANCE - Q&A!

In 1970, Governor Tom McCall was presented with a problem - thousands of protestors were planning to protest Nixon's visit to Portland at an American Legion conference. At the same time, a group of students were looking to hold a Woodstock-style event - in order avoid another bloody clash with police. From this turmoil, the first state-sponsored rock festival - Vortex I - was born.

Held near Estacada, the music/alternative lifestyle festival drew over 100,000 attendees and generated a fascinating chapter in Oregon's colorful history. Full of interviews and great archival footage - this must-see locally-made documentary is an entertaining and educational window into a risky political move that paid off and helped keep the peace in Oregon.
