7pm - Thursday
Anywhere USA
WINNER - Special Jury Prize
SUNDANCE FILM FEST
Told in three segments ranging from satirical to tragic, the
film is a wildly original look at American manners, prejudices, and
family dynamics.
7pm - Friday
Last Cup
Chronicles America’s wooziest subculture and follows
participants as they compete to conquer the fun and frothy sport of
competitive beer pong. Beer pong practitioners from across the US meet
in Nevada for the second annual World Series of Beer Pong where the
team with the sharpest accuracy (and highest tolerance) stands to walk
away with $20,000. LAST CUP cuts through the drunken revelry and sets
its cameras on four very different teams, culminating in a sobering,
nail-biter of a conclusion.
2pm - Saturday
White on Rice
2:45 - Sunday
Guatemalan Handshake
In the confusion following a massive power outage, an awkward
demolition derby driver vanishes, setting in motion a series of events
affecting his pregnant girlfriend, his helplessly car-less father, a
pack of wild boy scouts, a lactose intolerant roller rink employee,
an elderly woman in search of her lost dog, and his best friend –
a ten-year-old girl named Turkeylegs.
5pm - Sunday
Box Elder
Follows four best friends through their last years of college.
Dependent on their parents financially, and on each other emotionally,
they spend their time sleeping in, hanging out, and eating lots of sandwiches.
Using break-ups and re-occurring scholastic failures to impose a quarter-life
crisis, they take turns postponing responsibility, avoiding accountability,
and looking for someone or something to substantiate their lives, all
the while hedging their bets and mastering the art of treading water
and getting away with it.
7pm - Sunday
Visioneers
When people begin exploding from stress, George Washington
Winsterhammerman [Zach Galifianakis, "The Hangover"] tries
to ignore the epidemic and live his usual life, but when he starts having
dreams in which he’s the first President of the United States,
his doctor informs him that they could be signs of impending explosion.
Later, as the dreams become more frequent and his co-workers continue
to detonate, George is prompted to reevaluate his mundane existence.
7pm - Monday
Woodpecker
Fanatical birdwatchers have descended upon a small town in
the Arkansas bayou in hopes of finding the celebrated Ivory Billed Woodpecker.
Declared extinct in the 1940’s, the bird has apparently been spotted
by numerous experts. Enter amateur birder and poet Johnny Neander, who
has convinced his taciturn sidekick that he will be the one to find
the elusive woodpecker. The ensuing chaos divides the small town between
believers and non-believers, rabid environmentalists and opportunistic
entrepreneurs. Much like the bird itself, Woodpecker explores the intersection
of fact and fiction, manipulating our notions of documentary and narrative
techniques within a tragic comedy about hope, perception, and some very
very strange birds.
9pm - Monday
Impolex
At the end of WWII, the United States sent soldiers across
Europe to locate and retrieve the rockets and rocket science that Germany
perfected before losing the war. It was called Operation Paperclip.
Impolex is the story of one soldier and his mission to find the last
two undetonated German rockets.

Starring Robert Forrester and written by John Sayles, Alligator

Baby alligator gets in the sewers of Chicago - eats dead lab animal

the city surface to cruise for snacks?

CHAINED HEAT

Linda Blair plays Carol, a young woman who must serve 18 months
in prison after killing a man (by accident). The prison turns out to
be brimming with decadence, corruption and sleaze, where the other female
inmates are sadistic crack-selling lesbian rapists and the guards and
warden are no better. Racial tensions are high as the inmates is divided
into two factions, blacks and whites, who must either join together
against the management or kill each other trying. A sleazy blend of
sexploitation and blaxploitation make this movie a real winner.

AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY ON
ECO-PIRATES DEFENDING WHALES
"...the summer season's most surprising and thought-provoking documentary."
- Salon.com
At the Edge of the World chronicles the controversial Sea Shepherd Antarctic
Campaign against a Japanese whaling fleet. The international volunteer
crew, under-trained and under-equipped, develop a combination of bizarre
and brilliant tactics with which to stop the whalers. But first they
must find the Japanese ships, a far more difficult challenge than ever
imagined - long-time activist Paul Watson and first-time captain Alex
Cornelissen employ an array of strategies in the hopes of finding an
elusive adversary in the vast expanse of the Ross Sea. With one ship
(the Farley Mowat) too slow to chase down the whaling fleet, with their
second ship (the Robert Hunter) unsuited for Antarctic ice conditions
and with no country supporting their efforts to enforce international
law, the situation becomes increasingly desperate. Against all odds,
however, a real-life pirate tale unfolds - a modern-day "David
vs. Goliath" adventure.

CELEBRATE THE 40th ANNIVERSARY OF THE
PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS
WITH A RARE DOCUMENTARY
ABOUT THE 1977
CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM!
"An absolute must-see for anyone with an interest in the history
of either the Trail Blazers or Portland..."
- Portland Mercury
"richly atmospheric..."
- The Oregonian
In celebration of the 40th year for the Portland Trailblazers, the Clinton
Street Theater proudly
presents "FAST BREAK", an ultra rare documentary about the
1977 Trailblazers - that has been out of circulation since 1978, when
it played exclusively in Portland theaters for only one week.
Evoking a trippy cinema verite feel not found in most sports documentaries,
FAST BREAK examines the 1977 Trailblazers in a surprisingly personal
and compelling fashion. Inter-cutting excerpts from the playoff / championship
season, the film steps outside of the basketball court, and into the
everyday lives of the Trailblazers, as well as their coach Jack Ramsey.
Whether it's biking the Oregon coast with Bill Walton, hosting a kids
basketball camp with Dave Twardzik, or joking with Maurice Lucas at
the training pool - FAST BREAK lets the players speak for themselves:
about basketball, life and playing in Portland.
On Saturday, October 24th, Oregon author MATT
LOVE will be in attendance to share excerpts from his book
"Red Hot and Rolling: A Retrospection of the Portland Trailblazers
1976-77 Championship Season". Matt will also selling his book -
which includes a DVD copy of FAST BREAK.
On Sunday, October 25th,
FAST BREAK Co-Director
MIKE McLEOD and sports writer LARRY COLTON
(featured in the film - he interviews the team for the book IDOL TIME).
Both will be on hand for Q&A and will bring their best anecdotes
about the film.
FAST BREAK is part of the Don Zavin Collection at the Oregon Historical
Society Motion Picture Archives

“A studious, instructive look at the rapacious creep of
mall culture.”
- The Village Voice
"Malls R Us is instant classic..."
- Vanity Fair
Combining nostalgia, dazzling architecture, pop culture, economics and
politics, MALLS R US examines North America's most popular and profitable
suburban destination-the enclosed shopping center-and how for consumers
they function as a communal, even ceremonial experience and, for retailers,
sites where their idealism, passion and greed merge.
The film blends archival footage tracing the history of the shopping
mall in America, visits to some of the world's largest and most spectacular
malls-in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Poland, France, and Dubai-and
interviews with architects, mall developers, sales managers, environmentalists,
labor activists and social critics, as well as commentary from mall
shoppers themselves.

ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Money-Driven Medicine provides the essential introduction Americans
need to become knowledgeable participants in healthcare reform, now
and in the years ahead. Produced by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney
(Taxi to the Dark Side; Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) and based
on Maggie Mahar's acclaimed book, Money Driven Medicine: The Real Reason
Health Care Costs So Much, the film offers a behind-the-scenes look
at how our 2.6 trillion dollar a year healthcare system went so terribly
wrong and what it will take to fix it.
The U.S. spends twice as much per person on healthcare as the average
developed nation, fully one-sixth of our GDP - yet our outcomes, especially
for chronic diseases, are very often worse. What makes us different?
The U.S. is the only industrialized nation that has chosen to turn medicine
into a largely unregulated, for-profit business.
